Ajith dons Boopathy Pandian's Raja Vesham
Boopathy Pandian's latest hit Thiruvilayadal Arambam has elevated his status among the numerous producers of the industry who are competing with one another to rope him to direct their films. Initially he had promised to do a film for Lingusamy's production house.
After Kreedom and Billa 2007, Raja Vesham will be the next in line for ultimate star Ajith for whose fans the film is certain to provide a welcome change from serious element to comic relief. As regards Ajith, Raja Vesham is bound to be a mile stone in his film graph as he is donning an outright comedy role, perhaps for the first time in his career. Villain Ashish Vidyarthi who had always terrorized people with his high octane and intimidating demeanor will have a total image make over as a comedian in this film.

Ajith - 'Johny Johny No papa'
It is a well known fact that super star Rajnikanth's blockbuster Billa is being remade as Billa 2007 with Ajith in the lead. The casting for this film has been completed and the crew is all geared up to commence the shooting soon. Meanwhile according to the rumor mills of the industry,
Rajnikanth's old film Johny is also getting remade with Ajith as the hero. This film had portrayed the super star in a totally different style and is known for Ilayaraja's lilting melodies and superstar's style.
When remixes and remakes continue to be the order of the day, widespread speculations were rife about Ajith figuring in the remake of Johny also. But when the matter was broached with Ajith's close circle, they replied in negative. According to them, the ultimate star has committed only to Billa 2007 and no other such projects are in the pipeline.

Already we had reported that Naynthara, Pooja will be the heroines of Ajith in this movie then came the news of Namitha being roped in and now it being reported Sada may also feature, who's next on the list?
Cinesouth reported this:
More important than all these is 'Billa 2007' opposite Ajith. She [Sada] has been approached for the main role. She has already acted with Ajith in 'Thirupati.'
Sada was labeled an unlucky actress. Her victorious comeback now is giving most other actresses butterflies in their tummies!

Double delight for Namitha?
Namitha started her career acting with senior heroes in the industry. But soon, she managed to establish herself as the glamdoll of Tamil cinema and had offers coming her way thick and fast.
She is currently acting in Azhagiya Thamizh Magan alongside Vijay.
Grapevine also has it that Namitha will be acting with Ajith in the remake of the yesteryear classic Billa.
Namitha, who has reduced her weight considerably to act with Vijay, is thrilled at her new-found status in Tamil cinema.
She says, “I want to make the maximum use of the opportunities coming to me. It is the dream of every actress to be part of movies featuring prominent heroes and I am no exception to it.”Source: Indiaglitz
Ajith in a limousine for Billa 2007
Now that is what we call on a par with Hollywood. If that is not enough, Ajith will be seen gliding in a limousine for his next project 'Billa 2007'. We can only hope that Ajith's addiction to automobiles will not inspire him to buy one on his own. Chennai can definitely not handle two of a kind. Agree?

Billa 2007 - Rajini confirms participation
Prabhu's inclusion for the movie. Earlier Pooja was rumored to be a part of the movie, which seems to be replaced by Namitha.
While Nayan will don the role of Sripriya, Namitha plays the role of Praveena. Besides, the sultry Mumaith Khan is roped in for a raunchy dance number. Now, as it appears, Prakash Raj will play the villainous role of Major Sundar Rajan.
Credible sources reveal that Rajinikanth has been invited along with the yesteryear heroine Sripriya - who paired up with him for the original version - for the kick off event of Billa 2007, which is expected to be held soon. Looks like the superstar has nodded his consent to grace the occasion with his presence.
Meanwhile, Ajith fans are revving up the mood with posters and banners in and around Chennai city earmarking the launch of the movie.

Ajith's paycheck hits the 30 crore mark
What if his recent flick sank without a trace at the box office? Ajith still has the producers swear by him. If credible sources are to be believed, take our words for it. Ajith has just clinched a five-movie deal with the corporate honcho Reliance's Adlabs productions that has already
forayed into movies by producing a few Hindi films. In an attempt to put down their roots down south, the company has decided to invest a whopping 500 crores in Kodambakkam.
Out of Ajith's five movies, initially two movies will hit the floors anytime now. Besides, each movie will have a budget ranging from 30 to 40 crores. No wonder, Ajith is bowled over.
With the affluent Adlabs ready to invest in Tamil industry, how the directors make the most out of the opportunity remains to be seen. On the other hand, no official announcement has been released from the Ajith stable in this regard.

Reliance to give 30 crores to Ajith for 5 films
Reliance enters Kollywood by paying Ajith a whopping 30 crores for him to star in 5 films.
Reliance has decided to do business in the Tamil film world too. It is learnt that they are willing to invest at least 500 crores for that. So they have drawn up the list of top 10 actors and directors with whom they would like to work.
So they started by asking Vijay for his call sheet for making 5 films but the star maintained his usual silence before turning down the offer. The next choice was Ajith. Happy with the budget and proposal, Ajith immediately gave his assent.
Once the 2 films Ajith is acting in at present are complete, the formal announcement about his forthcoming 5 films would be made. For every Ajith film, it is learnt that Reliance is willing to spend between 30 and 40 crores.
Ajith
Ajith could be consulted on the choice of directors and other technicians, say production sources.

Billa 2007 adds up another hero
Rajini's Billa - which was already the remake of Hindi Don - will be recreated with Ajith in the lead much to the enticement of fans.
Looking back, Prabhu, after his self-imposed retirement from the lead roles, have been synonymous with meaty roles. Ranging from the role of a hilarious sidekick in Vasool Raja to an estranged husband of a possessed girl in Chandramukhi, Prabhu has done it all. Besides, his roles in Unakkum Enakkum and the latest release Thamiraparani won him an unrequited title of a character artist.
Produced by L. Suresh for Ananda pictures, Billa 2007 will be directed by Vishnuvardhan. Ajith will be reportedly flanked by Nayanthara and Pooja in the movie.

Nayantara's graph keeps rising
The actor enacts the role played by Sri Priya in the original. Buzz is that Pooja might play the second heroine in the movie.
Nayantara had a fantastic run last year in Kollywood. She had three releases on the same day last Deepavali. E, Vallavan and Thalaimagan released on the same day.
She then chose to concentrate in Tollywood for a while.

Nayantara in Ajith's film
For the first time, Nayantara teams up with Ajith. Despite her broken romance, public display of her intimate photos with Simbu and rumours of attempted suicide, Nayantara looks fresh. Because of the these problems it was thought that she would move away totally from Tamil films. She also gave call sheet to some Malayalam films.
But she has decided to forget the past and move on. After finishing her Telugu assignments 'Thulasi' with Venkatesh and 'Dubai Cheenu' with Ravi Teja, she will do a Tamil film.
Selvaraghavan is directing Telugu film 'Aadavalla Maatalukku Arthaalu Verule' that is being made in Tamil too. Telugu version stars Venkatesh and Trisha and the Tamil version stars Dhanush and Nayantara. This untitled film is being directed by Selvaraghavan's assistant Jawahar.
Rajini's 'Billa' is being adapted to today's time frame by Ananda Pictures L Suresh. Titled 'Billa 2' it is being directed by Vishnuvardhan. Ajith is the hero of the new Billa. He has two heroines in the film and one of them is Nayantara.
Even though she has given the call sheet for the Tamil film, the shooting will start only 4 or 5 months later. Till then, Nayantara will avoid coming to Chennai.

Ajith an instant choice for Billa?
Apart from the superstar who else can play Billa ?
- Ajith. He has been playing a stream of movies with the “Dada” look. There has been a long list of action movies under his name, starting from Dheena. Some of them have fared well, while some of the portrayals have been grotesque. He can still be a decent candidate for this kind of role. [comment dated 2006/09/04]
Seems like Ajith was an instant choice for some.

Why Vishnuvardhan preferred Nayantara?
It has been officially announced that Nayantara will be seen opposite Ajith in Billa 2007. A lot of names had been discussed before Nayantara was decided upon. Now the question. Why did Vishnuvardhan prefer Nayantara over some other names that were thrown around?
The other reason being that the heroine of Billa 2007 is not going to be a run of the mill stuff just appearing for songs, a few romantic scenes and then in the climax. The heroine here will have to be present right from start to finish competing with the hero for screen space essaying a very strong and bold performance. Vishnuvardhan found Nayan to be one amongst the current crop of heroines, who is capable of handling a role that is bold and rough, especially after her display in E!.
Anyways, all the very best Nayantara.

Nayanthara is Billa’s girl!
Nayanthara has bounced back in Kollywood with a bang! She has signed on the dotted line to be Ajit’s heroine for Vishnuvardhan directed Billa.
Isha Sherwani who was given an advance was dropped as she demanded the moon and the makers thought that Ajit-Nayan combination is any day a hotter proposition.
This news comes at a time when everybody had written off Nayanthara after a few intimate photographs with her former lover appeared in a section of the media. And later there was this rumour about her suicide attempt!
Nayanthara told Moviebuzz: “All this has made me a much stronger person. I believe that rumours and fame go hand in hand. I want to make it clear once again that I am focusing all my energies on my career in Tamil and Telugu.”
Nayan has given continuous bulk dates from May for Billa. Vishnu and Ananda Suresh are just back after finalizing locations in Malaysia and Singapore for the shoot.
Nearly 65 percent of the film will be shot in foreign locales and it will be one of the most stylishly shot films in Tamil. Ajit and Nayanthara is sure to sizzle as they make a fine pair.Source: Sify
Nayantara to play heroine in Billa
After bouts of several guesses, it is now said that Nayantara will be the heroine of Billa, the remake.
Billa, which stars Ajith in an all-new feel, is to be directed by Vishnuvardhan.
The film, which has kindled the anticipation of the industry, was in the news and speculations were high about who will play the heroine in it.
Many names were bandied about and Vishnu was caught in a dilemma.
But finally the mantle has fallen on the dashing Nayantara.
This is Nayantara’s big comeback (of sorts) after being away from Tamil since her three releases for Deepavali.
She is currently busy in Telugu. The main movie she is now working in Telugu is Thulasi with Venkatesh.
This is the first time that Nayantara will be acting with Ajith.
She has earlier worked with the likes of Rajini, Vijay (albeit for a song), Suriya, Jeeva, Sarath and Simbu.

Billa 2007 – Trisha and Shreya vie for honors
Looks like there is stiff competition between the lead ladies of Tamil cinema to be cast in the remake of old Rajini hit Billa, which is titled Billa 2007. The late 80s hit which starred Rajini, Praveena, and Sripriya will be remade with Ajith in the lead. Though Nayanthara has been finalized for the role done by Praveena, the other role is yet to be taken.
News has it that Trisha and Shreya are eyeing the hot spot and are in

Billa 2007
I just watched Shah Rukh Khan’s Don and though I haven’t seen the original Don with Amitabh Bachan, I have seen Billa and so could make some comparisons. Like most Hindi films these days, Don is slick and stylish. It maintains a fast pace though it feels choppy at times as it shifts between different tracks. The action sequences are well-executed(though I did notice lifts from several Hollywood flicks) and green being the predominant color gives the film a cool, sophisticated look. On the story side, the updates are done well considering the times and the technology advances. So the red diary becomes a CD, the circus performer is now a computer expert, etc. Some new characters and twists are introduced and though they make the screenplay complicated and a tad confusing, they do make the movie unpredictable - and so interesting - even for those who have seen the original.
Apart from Ajith, the other key persons currently attached to the ‘Billa 2007’ project are director Vishnuvardhan, the director of Pattiyal and Arindhum Ariyaamalum, and music director Yuvan Shankar Raja. These choices do make me have high hopes about the project. Ajith can definitely play the cool, suave and ruthless Billa well. And the effeminate behavior he exhibited so well in Varalaaru, if toned down, can help him in the role of the paan-chewing, roadside dancer. Pattiyal has convinced me that Vishnuvardhan is one of the more stylistic directors around and he is capable of providing the stylish look that a remake will require, to differentiate it sufficiently from the original. And Yuvan's thumping, high-energy score for Pattiyal proved that he can provide the perfect score for Vishnuvardhan's stylish filmmaking.
Now, I’m curious about the rest of the cast. I think the heroine role will be the toughest to cast. The heroine here is the strong and silent type and needs to kick(or atleast, seem as though she is capable of kicking) some butt. I’m not sure any of our 3 leading heroines (Trisha, Asin and Nayan) can carry it off. I can’t imagine any of them being convincing executing martial arts moves or riding a bike. So maybe Ileana? But Nayan would be perfect for the Helen/Kareena role – a special appearance where she gets a nice seductive dance number. Just depends on whether she’d agree to do another item number. If egos don’t get in the way, Maddy might be a good choice for the ‘Thengai’ Srinivasan/Arjun Rampal role. But considering Prabhu’s recent choice of roles, he might be in the running too. I’m just hope that none of our usual, overacting supporting actors like Karan or Sriman get cast in the key role! Prakashraj is an automatic choice for the K.Balaji/Boman Irani cop role. He is one of the few supporting characters who can pull off a policeman role convincingly. And Pooja might be a good choice for the Isha Koppikar role.
Since the movie's gonna start rolling in March 2007, thala will probably be singing My Name is Billa... for Diwali '07. Should be interesting...

Billa producer meets Rajinikanth
Anandha Suresh, who is producing the remake of Rajinikanth's yesteryear classic Billa, called on 'Super Star' Rajinikanth at his residence and discussed with him about the movie.
An elated Rajinikanth gave him few suggestions and encouraged him to come up with a movie with technological innovations.
Directed by Vishnuvardhan, the new version of Billa would feature Ajith in Rajinikanth’s role.
The Super Star, who recently gave a lunch for Ajith for his excellent performance in Varalaru, invited Ajith to his residence this week. He discussed with Ajith about his experiences working for Billa and also gave him few suggestions.

Vishnuvardhan to speed up Sarvam
Vishnuvardhan is already committed to direct the Ajith starrer Billa in the next year. Hence, he needs to move his coins very cautiously so as to accommodate a lot of factors in his itinerary. He should complete Sarvam before he embarks upon Billa and use Maddy’s call sheets also effectively.

Ajit has the guts to step into Rajini’s shoes
Remaking old classics is the latest trend in Indian cinema Amitabh Bachchan’s Hindi film ‘Don’ has been remade with Shahrukh Khan in the lead and it is doing really well. Another evergreen film ‘Sholay’ is also to be remade soon. Now, Kollywood is also set to keep in pace with the trend. Gutsy Ajit is going to act in the remake of Rajnikanth’s action classic of 1980 titled ‘Billa’.
Veteran distributor L.Suresh of Ananda pictures has bought the remake rights of the film from its original producer K.Balaji and Vishnuvardhan is going to direct the new version. Coincidentally, ‘Billa’ is a remake of ‘Don’. The director has been thinking of remaking it much before Farhan Akhtar but no superstar had the gut to take it up, as they think it would be too hard to face the comparison. However, Ajit has taken up the challenge to act in it and is raring to go.
It was ‘Billa’ that made Rajini a superstar. It was directed by R.Krishnamoorthy and featured actors like Sri Priya, Thengai Srinivasan, Major Sounderrajan and Helen. Now, the very thought of acting in this classic has made Ajit really excited and so too is the director. Ajit is said to have even approached Rajini regarding the film and the megastar has given him the nod. So, the shooting of the new version of ‘Billa’ would begin once Ajit completes his current film ‘Kireedom’.
The director is currently busy preparing the script of the film though he is retaining the story of the original. Nirav Shah, who shot the scenes of the hit ‘Dhoom-2’ is going to take care of the camera of this film. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director and Sreekar Prasad is the editor. The makers of the film are planning to come out with the remix version of two songs from the original with lyrics written by Kannadasan and music composed by M.S.Viswanathan. However, Rajnikanth’s introductory song “My name is Billa” sung by SPB and “Vethialaya Pottendy” sung by Malaysia Vasudevan will be retained in the new version too. It is expected to start rolling in March next year.
With the new version of ‘Don’ doing well at the theatres, expectations on ‘Billa’ also will be very high. Wait and watch what will come out of Ajit’s reserves!Billa again!
For the Tamil film industry, the 80s themselves were a time of remakes of Amitabh Bachchan films, with the Big B's films like Don, Coolie, Namak Halal, remade into Southern Superstar Rajinikanth superhits Billa, Padikkaadhavan and Velaikaaran.
Of these, one film that made it to cult fame was Billa, where Rajinikanth, like Amitabh in the original played a good guy and a bad guy, both look-alikes. And just like Amitabh Bachchan's Don was remade with King Khan - Shah Rukh - and released to packed theatres last month, Tamil cinema will also see a smashing and very 21st century remake of Billa...
